Tomas Oliva was born in Havana, Cuba in 1958. He studied at San Alejandro Academy, perfected his training at the Instituto Superior de Arte, and traveled to Ukraine to pursue his masters in fine arts at the Kiev State Institute of Art. Raised in the rigor and technical excellence of his father, the renowned sculptor Tomas Oliva, Tomas Oliva “the Younger” has a lengthy trajectory as a creator and arts educator. He has been a teacher at San Alejandro Academy in Havana, the Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana in Mexico City, Seattle Central Community College, Arts Corps, Pratt Fine Art Center and Olympic College in Bremerton. Oliva became a United States citizen in 2002, and has created art in Seattle since 1994.
