Darren Lay

Darren Lay is artistic director of the nationally recognized Young Shakespeare Workshop. Since 1998, he has directed for the workshop’s “Love's Labour's Lost,” “As You Like It,” “Iphigeneia,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “Romeo & Juliet,” “Hamlet,” “Macbeth,” “The Queen of Corsica,” “Tamburlaine the Great,” “Lope de Vega's Arauco” in the original Spanish and, most recently, “King Lear.” As a faculty member of Seattle Children’s Theatre for eleven years, he directed plays by Marlowe, Shakespeare, Marston, Fletcher, Massinger and Calderon. He has acted professionally at the Seattle Repertory Theatre, Intiman Theatre, Tacoma Actor’s Guild and the Empty Space. As a Shakespeare scholar, his work has been published in The Times Literary Supplement based in London.
