Youth Speaks Seattle
About Youth Speaks Seattle
Since 2003, Youth Speaks Seattle has been the city’s premier collective for youth spoken word poetry, creating avenues for youth voices through creative writing instruction and performance opportunities. Over the years, Youth Speaks Seattle has conducted residencies and visited classrooms in nearly all of Seattle’s public high schools, and hosted a monthly open mic series that has thrived for nearly six years.
In 2011, the renowned youth-led poetry program, became a program of Arts Corps. We are proud to continue the Youth Speaks Seattle’s legacy with poetry/spoken word classes and the hallmark Slam Series – an all-city poetry slam competition.
Youth Speaks events – free and open to youth ages 13-19.
Our open mics are supportive, celebratory spaces where participants can perform in whatever style they wish: music, freestyle, poetry, finished or not.
